DOINGGOODPROJECTS (Pty)Ltd (registration number 2023/130805/07), trading as Doing Good Projects ("DGP", "we", "us", "our"), respects your privacy and is committed to protecting your personal information in accordance with the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 ("POPIA").
This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect through www.doinggoodprojects.com (the "Site"), how and why we use it, who we may share it with, and what rights you have in relation to it.
By using the Site, submitting a form, contacting us, or subscribing to our newsletter, you acknowledge that your personal information will be processed as described in this Policy.
2. Information We Collect
a) Information you give us directly
We collect personal information that you choose to share with us, for example when you:
contact us via our Contact page or by email;
complete our Client Intake Form to enquire about a project;
subscribe to our newsletter or mailing list; or
correspond with us via email or social media.
This information may include your name, email address, phone number, and any details about your business or project that you choose to share with us.
If you make a donation to Doing Good Trust via EFT, we do not collect or store your banking details, card numbers, or online banking login information through the Site - donations are made directly by you to the Trust's bank account using details provided on the Site. We may, however, become aware of your name and/or payment reference for the purposes of acknowledging your donation.
b) Information collected automatically
When you visit the Site, certain information may be collected automatically, such as your device and browser type, IP address, pages visited, and how you arrived at the Site. This helps us understand how the Site is used and to improve it. See Section 7 (Cookies & Tracking Technologies) for more detail.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use personal information to:
respond to enquiries submitted via the Contact page or Client Intake Form;
discuss and progress potential and existing Client Projects;
send newsletters or updates, where you have subscribed (via Mailchimp);
acknowledge and manage donor relationships in connection with donations to Doing Good Trust;
operate, maintain, and improve the Site; and
comply with our legal, regulatory, and accounting obligations.
4. Our Lawful Basis for Processing
We only process your personal information where we have a lawful basis to do so under POPIA, including where:
you have given your consent (for example, by subscribing to our newsletter);
the processing is necessary to take steps towards, or to perform, a contract with you (for example, discussing a Client Project);
we have a legitimate interest in conducting and promoting our business and philanthropic activities, provided this does not unreasonably impact your privacy; or
the processing is necessary to comply with a legal obligation to which we are subject.
5. Sharing Your Information
We do not sell or rent your personal information to anyone.
We may share your personal information with:
trusted third-party service providers who help us run the Site and our business, such as our website platform (Framer) and our email marketing provider (Mailchimp), who are only permitted to use your information to provide services to us;
Doing Good Trust, where relevant to acknowledging or processing a donation, or to discussing our shared philanthropic projects;
regulators, courts, or other authorities, where required or permitted by law; or
a third party in connection with a sale, merger, or restructuring of our business, subject to appropriate confidentiality protections.
6. Cross-Border Transfers
Some of our service providers (for example, Mailchimp) may store or process personal information on servers located outside South Africa. Where this is the case, we take reasonable steps to ensure that such information continues to be protected to a standard consistent with POPIA, including by relying on those service providers' own data protection commitments and safeguards.
7. Cookies & Tracking Technologies
The Site may use cookies and similar technologies - including those associated with embedded YouTube, Vimeo, or Instagram content, or our website platform - to enable certain features and to help us understand how the Site is used. You can control or disable cookies through your browser settings; please note that some parts of the Site may not function properly if you do so.
8. Data Security
We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal information in our possession or control from loss, unauthorised access, use, alteration, or disclosure. While we work to protect your information, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. Data Retention
We retain personal information only for as long as necessary for the purposes described in this Policy, including to:
respond to and follow up on enquiries;
maintain ongoing client and donor relationships; and
meet our legal, tax, and accounting record-keeping obligations under South African law.
Where we no longer need personal information for these purposes, we will take reasonable steps to delete or de-identify it.
10. Direct Marketing
We will only send you marketing communications (such as our newsletter) where you have opted in to receive them. You may withdraw your consent and unsubscribe at any time, either by using the "unsubscribe" link in any newsletter or by contacting us at hello@doinggoodprojects.com.
11. Children's Privacy
The Site is not directed at, or intended for use by, persons under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we have inadvertently collected personal information from a child, please contact us so that we can address it.
12. Your Rights Under POPIA
Subject to applicable law, you have the right to:
be informed about how your personal information is collected and used (as set out in this Policy);
request access to the personal information we hold about you;
request that we correct or update inaccurate, incomplete, or outdated personal information;
request that we delete or destroy personal information that we are no longer authorised to retain;
object to the processing of your personal information, including for direct marketing purposes; and
withdraw any consent you have given, at any time, without affecting the lawfulness of processing carried out before withdrawal.
